WATER WORKS PARK
For this invited competition, we were inspired by water infrastructure. Expansive networks of pipes and valves are usually hidden behind walls and below ground. When we open our taps, the complexity behind this clear, running water is often overlooked.
Water Works Park aimed to celebrate the physical and organizational structures that are used to transport water throughout one’s city. We see value in referencing these forms as a way of informing younger children about how water reaches their home. The project references the full water journey, including the process of evaporation, condensation and precipitation, and how this is then integrated into our sophisticated plumbing and water delivery systems.
Through the use of standardized piping components, valves and taps, we have accumulated a catalogue of possible configurations for play equipment, seating, sculptural elements and entrance ways that could be installed in Water Works Park. We see much value in working with found materials, or “ready mades”, as a way of preventing material waste and reducing construction complexity.
